Settlement Overview
There is a class action settlement concerning the conditions of confinement at The City of New York's Central Booking facilities. The City of New York has agreed to pay up to $21,500,000 into a settlement fund to resolve three consolidated lawsuits: Capobianco et al. v. The City of New York et al., Brennan et al. v. The City of New York et al., and Aboubakar et al. v. The City of New York et al.
You may be eligible if you were detained at a Central Booking facility between April 8, 2017 and December 27, 2019 (Brooklyn Central Booking), or between February 3, 2020 and March 1, 2023 (all Central Booking locations). Eligible class members may receive up to $475 for each time they were held in a Central Booking facility during the class period.
To receive a payment, you must file a claim by October 19, 2026. You may file a claim here or by mail.
